MOTIVATION TO APPLY FOR THIS POSITION

My motivation to apply for the Presidency of the IAGP is deeply rooted in my academic and professional journey, which has been focused on group dynamics and psychotherapy. As a tenured academic and Senior Research Fellow at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, I have taught courses on Group Dynamics, Psychodynamics of Family Relations, Gender Studies, and Clinical Psychology. As Chair of the International Relations of my Department, working with more than fifty international partners, I have gained a unique understanding of multicultural challenges and opportunities, which I believe is crucial for the growth of IAGP. In addition to my academic work, I serve as an advisor in leadership for CEOs across different industries and continents, coaching top managers and high-level public servants. In this role, I integrate psychoanalytic principles into organizational consultancy, helping leaders navigate complex group dynamics and improve their decision-making processes. The work with high-level professionals complements my broader commitment to fostering effective group processes and leadership within IAGP. My present role as Chair of the Governance and Bylaws Committee at IAGP, and before that, initiator of the FOYT program, member of the Board of Directors and Chair of the Organizational Consultancy Section, reflect my long- standing commitment to IAGP. It is about nurturing the next generation of group psychotherapists and scholars, within the boundaries of accountability and clarity of tasks. Furthermore, as co-editor-in-chief of IAGP’s Forum scientific journal, I successfully led the launch of the journal on the Open Journal System platform, which has significantly improved its accessibility and academic quality. This effort has enhanced the journal’s contributions to the scientific discourse and positioned it as a leading voice in group psychotherapy and group process research. These experiences have fueled my passion for contributing to the future of IAGP and leading initiatives that bridge global perspectives with local practices in group psychotherapy and processes.

IF YOU ARE ELECTED, WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACHIEVE?

If elected President of IAGP, I will focus on driving organizational growth, advancing professional development, fostering cultural sensitivity, and enhancing international collaboration. My key initiatives will include: 1. Expand Membership A solid and diverse

membership base is vital for a healthy organization. My priority is to attract new members and retain existing ones, ensuring financial stability while fostering a genuinely global, stimulating exchange among professionals in group psychotherapy. To achieve this, we need to open a dialogue with group scholars from beyond the traditional boundaries of IAGP. By actively engaging professionals from related fields such as ethnopsychiatry, anthropology, education, art, political science, and others, we can create a more interdisciplinary dialogue that enriches our understanding of group dynamics and broadens the scope of our work in group psychotherapy. This approach will ensure that IAGP remains relevant and connected to the wider professional landscape. 2. Build International Networks IAGP will shift from primarily working with local affiliate organizations to connecting with regional, national, and multinational networks of professional associations. By establishing virtual exchange programs, members from diverse regions will collaborate on group projects, research, and workshops, facilitating the exchange of perspectives and cross-cultural learning. This new vision will strengthen IAGP’s role in building understanding and connections across cultural divides, theoretical models and clinical practices. 3. Create a Global Knowledge- Sharing Platform As part of the enhanced online presence of IAGP (new website, Forum platform, newsletter, and ICT system), it is time to establish a global knowledge-sharing platform. We have already digitized the archives of the scientific production of Forum: this new resource will allow members to collect and exchange educational materials, best practices, and offer access to a repository of case studies showcasing successful group interventions in diverse cultural contexts. By providing practical tools for different methods and models in group psychotherapy and promoting resources on leadership and organizational skills, the platform will support long-life learning and engagement. 4. Promote Cultural Competency IAGP will prioritize culturally competent practices that equip members to effectively navigate cultural differences, address implicit biases, and deepen their understanding of group dynamics in diverse settings. This initiative will foster cross-cultural awareness and ensure we avoid a “colonizing” mindset when collaborating with partners in non-western regions. By promoting mutual respect, members will be better positioned to facilitate more inclusive and effective group processes, leading to improved therapeutic outcomes globally. 5. Foster Interdisciplinary Collaboration Interdisciplinary collaboration is essential for addressing the complex challenges facing group psychotherapy and work today. Beyond fostering cooperation and innovation, this cross-fertilization approach will also facilitate a broader organizational overhaul, which many global organizations are undertaking post- pandemic. In response to escalating armed conflicts and emerging global challenges, this initiative aims ensuring that IAGP remains adaptable, relevant, and capable of meeting the evolving needs of our field. Greater efforts must be made to support members to take on leading roles in the Association, and in general to be heard and find their voice. 6. Strengthen Governance and Management While volunteer-driven, IAGP must operate with more effective governance and professional management to meet modern challenges. As President, I will prioritize creating a more task-driven organization, guided by clear procedures and streamlined processes. By fostering synergy across teams and improving cost efficiency, we can ensure that IAGP becomes more focused and member-

oriented. My goal is to align IAGP with a strategic vision that positions the association as the leading global authority in group psychotherapy and processes, underpinned by professionalism and sustainable practices.

YOUR VISION FOR IAGP (IN WHAT DIRECTION DO YOU WISH TO SEE IAGP DEVELOPING TOWARD)

I see IAGP evolving into a globally integrated leader in group psychotherapy and group processes, fully equipped to address the pressing challenges of our time. To achieve this, we must expand beyond traditional affiliations, forging partnerships with regional, national, and multinational organizations. This will foster deeper cross-cultural collaboration and ensure that IAGP embraces diversity rather than adopting a “colonizing” approach. IAGP should become a hub of continuous learning, where members access a global knowledge-sharing platform integrated with our online presence. This platform will offer educational materials, best practices, and case studies, enhancing the professional development of our members. My aim is for IAGP to become a clinical, practical and scientific repository of high-quality professional and theoretical resources, to improve the standards of group psychotherapy and group work. I also envision a more inclusive and interdisciplinary IAGP. By encouraging cross-committee collaboration, we can harness the expertise of our diverse membership to address complex global issues—whether it’s the aftermath of the pandemic, natural disasters, or escalating conflicts. This adaptability will ensure that IAGP remains relevant, innovative, and impactful. Ultimately, my vision is for IAGP to become a more inclusive, forward- thinking association that builds bridges between clinical practice, research, and diverse cultures, advancing both the efficacy and global reach of group psychotherapy and organizational consultancy. A vision of growth through multidisciplinary collaboration, which aims to ensure the organization’s financial stability, relevance, and adaptability by making IAGP a leader in global conversations around group work.

BIOGRAPHY

Roberta Mineo, Ph.D., (Palermo, IT, 1969) I am a Tenured Senior Research Fellow at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Unimore), where I chair the International Relations Committee, overseeing mobility programs with over 50 global partners. I hold a PhD in Clinical Psychology, a post-doctoral degree in Human Rights, and am a graduate in Labor and Organizational Psychology. My teaching portfolio includes courses on Group Processes, Psychodynamics of Family Relations, Gender Studies, and Clinical Psychology. I serve as the Program Chair of the Industrial PhD in Reggio Childhood Studies, where I lead seminars for doctoral candidates. I have been a visiting professor at NYU Law School, invited by Professor Jerome Bruner, and have played key roles in numerous international research programs such as Atlantis-Glofied (early childhood) and Grundtvig-Seniorks (lifelong learning). My research interests focus on group analysis applied to educational settings, with recent publications exploring group relations, youth resilience, and death education, as well as the psychodynamics of large groups and creativity and space in group processes. In addition to my academic work, I chair the Governance and Bylaws Committee at the International Association for Group Psychotherapy and Group

Processes (IAGP) and initiated the FOYT program for young professionals. Previously, I was a member of the IAGP Board of Directors and Chair of the Organizational Consultancy Section of IAGP. I am also the co-Editor-in-Chief of IAGP’s scientific journal, *Forum* for group psychotherapies and processes. Before my academic career at Unimore, I worked as a brand manager at Procter & Gamble, where I acquired management, marketing, and communication skills. Since then, I have designed and directed international group relations conferences, including RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award) and FLAM (Femininity, Leadership, Authority, Masculinity). I have also served as an advisor for NGOs like CISS Morocco and collaborated with research institutions such as the University of Zadar (Croatia) and the University of Fort Hare (South Africa). Additionally, I work as an advisor in leadership for CEOs across different industries and continents, providing psychoanalytical coaching to top managers and high-level public servants.

MOTIVATION TO APPLY FOR THIS POSITION

I have been a member of IAGP since 1986. I served one and a half terms on the board and I received a lot from IAGP during the past almost 40 years, so I deeply feel I want to give back to IAGP. Having lived and studied in very different cultures gives me the opportunity to and the skill how to attract and relate to members of different cultures and give them a voice in building a real international IAGP with members from different cultures feeling at home at IAGP.

IF YOU ARE ELECTED WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACHIEVE?

IAGP is, to my knowledge, the only relevant international association for therapeutic and non-therapeutic group workers that includes professional participants and participant associations from all continents and many cultures. Having lived, studied, and worked myself not only in Germany but also in France, Japan, Nicaragua, and USA I feel I could support IAGP in developing its inter- and transcultural wisdom and skills. Help to grow as a container for group workers from diverse and different cultures yet respect their individuality and characteristics and give them an equal voice. At the same time, having managed various organizations, I feel obliged to the reality principle, that says without enough members and money, no organization can be of importance and relevant.

YOUR VISION FOR IAGP (IN WHAT DIRECTION DO YOU WISH TO SEE IAGP DEVELOPING TOWARD)

A deeper understanding of what it means to be a transnational, transcultural organization and improve our practice. Widen our financial basis as well as our membership. Create a consensus of the core values and in what area IAGP wants to be and/or wants to become relevant. This also means to acknowledge limitations and set limits.

BIOGRAPHY

I am in private group-analytic and psychoanalytic practice in Duesseldorf since 1980 and head of the therapeutic community „Haus Steprath” since 1989. Since 1982 I am a member of Amnesty International ‘s German standing conference of medical doctors and psychologists for the treatment of victims of torture. From 1987 until 2000 I was director of the “Free Counseling Center for Psychotherapy” in Duesseldorf, Germany, where I developed the concept of sheltered living as a „Therapeutic Community within the Community”. My special interests include therapeutic communities, the group- therapeutic approach, the psychotherapy of psychosis, the treatment of victims of torture and severe traumatization, and the application of group dynamics to the understanding of social processes. Born in Munich, I lived a year in Seattle before finishing my baccalaureate back home. I studied Psychology in Montpellier, Tokyo, and Munich and Group Analysis and Psychoanalysis and Group Psychotherapy in Tokyo, Munich, Bern, and Berlin. Joining IAGP I opened for Psychodrama and Art Therapy and developed a special interest in the “Theater of the Oppressed” (Augusto Boal), conducting a memorable workshop at the IAGP Congress in Buenos Aires. From 1980 to 1984 I headed the psychoanalytic training institute in Düsseldorf and was Vice-President of the German Academy of Psychoanalysis from 1982 to 1984. In 1987 I did supervision work in the then only psychiatric military hospital of Nicaragua and maintained my relationship to America Latina ever since. I am father of 3 grown up children and married to Malvina Penaloza de Jud, a Panamanian national. Recuperating from the stress of professional life I enjoy blue water sailing. From 2020 until this year, I have intermittently sailed around the world, having reached Brazil this summer and plan to be back in Panama, where the journey started, in spring of next year. I have been a member of IAGP since 1986 and a board member since 2020. The first IAGP Congress I participated was the 9th International Congress of Group Psychotherapy in Zagreb, August 24th-29th, 1986, Past Yugoslavia.

I am a psychiatrist. I am currently chairing the psychiatry department in the faculty of medicine at Cairo University. I am Professor at the European University in Egypt, and Adjunct Faculty at the American University in Cairo. I co-chair the Education Committee of the International Association for Group Psychotherapy and Group Processes (IAGP), and I have a leadership position in some NGOs related to psychiatry, psychotherapy and working with groups. Witnessing the development of ‘milieu therapy’ in Egypt since 1973, I strongly believe in the value of shared responsibility and the ‘shoulder to shoulder’ position. I then carried the responsibility of spreading the ‘we’ vision, believing in groups as a key word for human development and survival. Part of my professional interest is to shed light on the founders and the process of foundation of group work and group psychotherapy in different regions in the world. I teach, train and supervise integrative psychotherapy, group psychotherapy and group work. My main target population are junior and young professionals in the mental health field and beyond. I am interested in enhancing culturally sensitive approaches to group psychotherapy and group work, which has become an essential part of my orientation. Finally, I am interested in integrating creative arts in different mental health practices.

MOTIVATION TO APPLY FOR THIS POSITION

Together with many colleagues, I carry the legacy and responsibility of groups for the world, and would like to keep the sustainability of the input of those who worked for constructive transformations using groups. It happened since long time when I got specific positions in IAGP, such as being member of the Central Administrative Office, co-chair of the Young Professional Section, CAOA chair, and co-chair of the Education Committee. Additionally, I participated in organizing some IAGP regional and international conferences. Along this journey, I have seen how the work for the world can be rewarding, and can also be challenging at different levels. Such experiences have enriched my insight and professional understanding as well as my administrative skills. The position of IAGP Vice President would increase the possibility of getting more out of such experiences. Additionally, at the present time, the IAGP is developing from different perspectives (professional and administrative), which would add to the efficiency of my contribution to the organization. Finally, I owe a lot to IAGP, a more responsible position (VP) would expand my giving back from a more resourceful position.

If elected, I will work targeting the following objectives:

I) Within IAGP
– Emphasizing the input of all professionals who gave their time and effort for boosting the IAGP mission (beginning and beyond the IAGP founders, Moreno and Foulkes).
– Building on and boosting transparency in IAGP.
– Recruiting individuals who can work for IAGP from different countries in the world. – Accentuating the respect for cultural diversities.
– Bringing IAGP closer to the ‘we’ rather than the ‘us versus them’ position.
– Emphasizing self-care among IAGP professionals.
– Creating more opportunities to exchange information within IAGP.

II) IAGP in/for the world.
– Bringing IAGP to a more visible and powerful position in the world:
– Having a clear steadily proceeding marketing plan
– Targeting more regions in the world, with consideration of the geographical distribution and the need of the host country.
– Recruiting individual and affiliate members who are actively involved in different IAGP projects that shed light on IAGP input.
– More effectiveness in terms of professional training and education in group psychotherapy and group work.
– Spreading group spirit and group skills all over the world:
– Expanding the motivation of working for the world.
– Boosting shared IAGP and its affiliates’ mission and vision.
– Spreading awareness and skills of positive group work and group psychotherapy to more regions in the world.

BIOGRAPHY

She is a psychiatrist, group psychotherapist. She is professor and head of psychiatry department at Cairo University. She has been teaching in different universities in Egypt (e.g., the American University in Cairo, AUC; and the European University in Egypt, EUE). She has worked on the development of group psychotherapy and group processes in Africa and has contributed to the spread of group psychotherapy in the region. She participated in the organization of several conferences in Egypt, 6 regional IAGP conferences and co-chaired the scientific committee of the 21st International IAGP conference (the first IAGP online international conference), Pescara, 2022. Mona Rakhawy has a special interest and input in community mental health (MH), creative arts therapy and culturally oriented practices. She has participated in different MH projects. She founded and led NGOs in the service of patients, healthy individuals, and communities (e.g., the Egyptian Association for Group Therapies and Group Processes, EAGT; Rakhawy Institute for Training and Research, RITR). She has more than 40 publications in the psychiatry and mental health fields. She is a trainer in group and individual psychotherapy, and she has given keynote speeches in Egypt and different countries of the world.

MOTIVATION TO APPLY FOR THIS POSITION:

After conducting several transformations of IAGP’s financial management (*) during my first term as Treasurer I should be able to shift my attention to other domains during a second term.

In the first place that shift should allow me to devote more attention to our membership, especially as our current EMG experience demonstrates on a daily basis that the absence of an EMG role in charge of our membership is a costly error. IAGP keeps struggling with a membership basis which is way too modest in view of our broad scope of activities, worldwide dimension and huge ambition! This should somehow be a key role at the heart of our daily management. Of course as Treasurer I will not be a real substitute for that missing EMG role, but at least I want to contribute.

Yet another benefit of that shift of attention: I should also find more space for involving myself in non-financial activities than until now, like in the development and the life of some sections.

At the same time I want to maintain my active contribution level as a general EMG member.

− Yearly budgeting of the regular operations with a calculated balance between the regular revenues and expenses, used with intermediary verifications of the actual values.
− Separate detailed budgeting for the triennial international congress with a modelling tool supporting decision making by the calculation of hypotheses.
− Alignment of IAGP’s accounting processes with the legal obligations (yearly General Assemblies taking place with 6 months after closure of the accounts).

IF YOU ARE ELECTED, WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACHIEVE?

If I’m elected again as Treasurer, the first challenge will of course be to manage the financial settlements of the IAGP2025 congress. The experience with the Pescara congress indicates that this activity takes several months.

But in general, my primary attention point – besides of course applying the Treasurer’s processes properly – will go to increasing IAGP’s revenues, in the first place by proactively contributing to the extension and enrichment of IAGP’s membership basis. And in the second place also by relying on the creativity of the reborn Finance Committee, to find together and implement other creative ways of improving IAGP’s revenue sourcing.

This second term as Treasurer will also be my last one, and I will prepare the succession through appropriate documentation for IAGP’s future Treasurers. When I started myself, I did find some detailed existing procedures, but I missed a helicopter view allowing me to immediately understand how the various elements fit together to build a coherent management whole.

YOUR VISION FOR IAGP (IN WHAT DIRECTION DO YOU WISH TO SEE IAGP DEVELOPING TOWARD)

IAGP is a global organization, which brings together professionals from many complementary group related disciplines, and which offers a lot of valuable things, not oonly to its members but even, more broadly, to the world. The number, quality level and diversity of the activities organized by IAGP is outstanding. When one considers that, then the very modest and rather locally concentrated membership becomes something strange. I wish to see IAGP reaching many more professionals and more professional associations, to bring its effective reach more in line with its outstanding potential, so that it could execute its mission for the benefit of a much large audience. This is in my opinion a priority orientation for the short future.

BIOGRAPHY

Bruno is founder and managing partner of TeamMotivation, a boutique consulting company that intertwines organisational development, culture transformation and team coaching with systems psychodynamics. Before that, he had built up an extensive business experience in various senior management positions in the European steel business (engineering and capex, quality management, HR, safety and change management, finance, controlling and BI, e-business, purchasing). He was also a Board member of several joint-venture companies. Bruno is also involved in Psy@work, an innovative solution that combines AI, technology, and psychology to improve employee wellbeing and mental health. In parallel he has also developed, and he runs business activities in district heating technologies as agent for Rebaro Fernwärmetechnik. In the domain of systems psychodynamics, where has been active for twenty years, Bruno has co-created and directed several large international Group Relations Conferences, like “Leadership, Contact & Conflict – working beneath the surface” in the Netherlands. In the field of D&I, he has co-designed and conducted many programs for companies to improve gender balance and balanced leadership. Since 2018 Bruno has been the mental coach of the only female pilot in the MotoE World Championships. He is an executive Board member and Treasurer of the International Association for Group Psychotherapy and Group Processes IAGP, where ha has been a member since 2012. He also co-leads the Belgian INSEAD Women in Business club, where he has developed gender balanced mentoring solutions. Bruno is a Belgian citizen, and his education backgrounds are in engineering (University of Ghent), in management and finance (Solvay Business School – Université Libre de Bruxelles), in leadership and strategy (INSEAD), and in systems psychodynamics (IFSI with the University of Bath).

I have played a key role in the extensive development of IAGP by leading the creation of a comprehensive digital platform for the organization. This platform integrates a membership database, a website, and communication tools, all of which are now effectively managed by two staff members and an external provider. I am proud of these accomplishments, which have significantly enhanced our operational efficiency and member engagement. My motivation comes from being part of a successful international board that is well-positioned for future growth.

I believe IAGP has the potential to become a leader in the field of group psychotherapy and group processes. With my deep organizational insight from my work with the board, including my role as chair of OCS, I have contributed to creating a transition platform for the board and a new digital platform connecting all IAGP members. I aim to build on these foundations to further advance IAGP’s leadership and visibility in the global community.

My vision for IAGP is to see it evolve into a globally recognized leader in the field of group psychotherapy and group processes, setting the standard for professional excellence, inclusivity, and innovation. I envision IAGP developing as a hub of knowledge and collaboration, where members from diverse backgrounds can connect, share expertise, and co-create new approaches to group work. I want IAGP to expand its digital capabilities further, making resources, training, and networking opportunities accessible to professionals worldwide, regardless of location. By strengthening our community, enhancing our digital presence, and promoting evidence-based practices, IAGP can continue to lead the field and make a meaningful impact on the challenges facing society today.

BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Simon McLellan is a New Zealand-based educator, writer, and musician. He has worked in a variety of educational contexts, including as a teacher, lecturer, and organizational consultant. Dr. McLellan holds a PhD from the University of Canterbury, where he completed a thesis on the role of universities in promoting social consciousness. He has written and presented extensively on topics related to education, including curriculum development, teacher training, and educational leadership. In addition to his work in education, Dr. McLellan is also a violinist and has performed in various orchestras and ensembles in New Zealand and internationally. He has a particular interest in Baroque and early music, and has collaborated with a range of musicians and performers in this field. Dr. McLellan is also involved in various professional organizations related to education and psychology. For example, he is a board member of the International Association of Group Psychotherapy and Group Processes (IAGP) and a member of the Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand Psychodrama Association (AANZPA). As a member of IAGP Education Committee, I have participated

and contributed to various activities and especially the IAGP Education Programme with Iranian Colleagues. As a member of Social and Collective Trauma Committee, I have been conducting a Support Group for Russian Colleagues once a month. As a member of Governance and Bylaws Committee I have participated to all the activities and contributions of the Committee. I am the co-editor of IAGP Globeletter (with dear Thor Kristian Island). Now, I think that it is the time for me to move forward and become a member of IAGP EMG.

As the Secretary/Information Manager of IAGP I will do my best in order to accomplish my main task, namely to keep the records of the association (or any other business regarding this task) and be responsible for the framework of communications and its maintenance (Information Manager). Additionally, I will be in close cooperation with the EMG, BoD and mainly with IAGP Membership in order to achieve and further develop IAGP’s visions. The evolutionary journey of humankind throughout the centuries is characterized by the ever-present conflict between Eros and Thanatos. Despite the fact that ephemeral or superficial approaches, to any given perception of reality, tend to obscure or disguise this ubiquitous, dialectic struggle, it always manifests its existence in terms of creativity passion and eudaemonic expectations in conjunction with destructive forces and disintegrating procedures. It becomes more apparent or, even, fluctuating during transitional times, when many things which have been taken for granted are under question, when important challenges to ‘’status quo’’ are more than obvious and when a previously achieved steady state can no longer meet the needs or the desires of persons, groups, society and the world at large. We, IAGP people, can have a pivotal role in our electronic and globalized era, with all challenges and ambiguities which need to be addressed thoroughly and further explored, with wisdom, attention and mutual respect. IAGP should and needs to be the leader and the protagonist in the field of Group Psychotherapy and Group Processes.

I am a Psychiatrist, Psychodynamic Psychotherapist and Group Analyst in Private clinical practice in Greece. I am a full member of the Hellenic Psychiatric Association and a Training Analyst in HOPEinGA (Hellenic Organization of Psychotherapy and Education in Group Analysis), Athens. IF YOU ARE ELECTED, WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACHIEVE?

The CAOA community of affiliates is a very essential encounter space for IAGP. My vision is to contact as many as possible 1. Federations of associations, 2. Large or medium-large associations of members, and 3. Small associations, including the individual memberships which are formalized as affiliate memberships and convince them to become IAGP members.

Each affiliate member needs to be approached individually and to some extent in a differentiated way, to take their own associative life into consideration to develop mutually beneficial relationships. Thus, I will devote enough time and intelligence to that individual and differentiated approach.

Through our preparations to create the future Theater and Arts Therapy section we discovered that there are worldwide at least hundred associations in that therapy field alone! This represents a huge potential to reach out to and to develop relationships with. This also suggests that even in our traditional domains of psychodrama and group analysis (not to mention group processes!) there are probably also more associations than the ones we already know in our CAOA community.

I will also make all efforts to bring back those affiliate associations who have abandoned their IAGP membership, especially the large ones, after understanding and addressing the reason why they left.

At the practical level of our CAOA meetings, we shall organize them in double sessions at two different moments of the meeting day, so that all members can attend one session according to their worldwide time zone.

Last but not least, as Chair of CAOA I will proactively represent the needs of our membership in general in the EMG.

She has graduated from the National Theater of Northern Greece, the Jacques Lecoq International School of Mime and Drama, the “Pcpd” Psychodrama Center, the “Anne Ancelin Schutzenberger” International School of Transgenerational Therapy, the “Transpersonal Hypnotherapy Institute”, the Aeon Dramatherapy Institute, she continued her studies in the Psychology department of the “European University of Cyprus”. Richard M. Billow, PhD is a clinical psychologist and holds postdoctoral certificates in psychoanalysis and group psychotherapy. He is a diplomate and former board member of the American Board of Group Psychology. For many years Billow directed and continues to teach in the Postgraduate Group Program at the Derner Institute, Adelphi University and currently serves as Clinical Professor in Adelphi’s Postgraduate programs in Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy. He has been an invited presenter and workshop leader in group conferences throughout the United States, Europe, Russia, Israel, Australia, Taiwan, Japan, and Latin America. Billow has published more than 60 peer- reviewed journal articles and book chapters in psychoanalysis and group psychotherapy and authored five books: Relational Group Psychotherapy. From Basic Assumptions to Passion (2003), Resistance, Rebellion and Refusal: The 3 Rs (2010), Developing Nuclear Ideas (2016), Richard M. Billow’s Selected Papers on Psychoanalysis and Group Process: Changing Our Minds, Tzachi Slonim, Ed. (2021), and the forthcoming Psychoanalytic Group Psychotherapy: An Introduction (Routledge, 2025). I’ve been collaborating with the analytic section in the last few years. I think I can continue to do a good job in the section, this time as a chair. I trained in groups at the former Group Analytic Psychotherapy Society of the State of Rio de Janeiro. Throughout five years of training, and more than 35 years of practice in group work I learned about different schools and authors in analytic group psychotherapies such as the British School (Bion and Foulkes), the French School (Anzieu, Kaës and others), the Argentine School (Pichon-Rivière and operative groups and Psychoanalysis of vinculo/link/lien) and Brazilian School (Mello Filho, David Zimerman). I also learned American group approaches through authors such as Agazarian, Yalom, Billow, Stone, Ormont and others. In this direction, I can offer the analytic section a transcultural and broader perspective compatible with IAGP aims and the analytic group work goals.

Since 1988 I have worked with analytic groups in Brazil. I was president of the Brazilian Association for Group Psychotherapy and president of the Society of Group Analytic Psychotherapy of the State of Rio de Janeiro. Over the last 21 years, I’ve been working internationally. I lectured and worked in the United States and Mexico and through the Group Analytic Society I’ve been organizing workshops, lecturing and working in various countries in Europe – such as Portugal, Serbia, the UK, Italy, and Greece. From 2017 to 2023 I was a member of the Scientific Committee of the Management Committee of the Group Analytic Society International and I am a current member of the IAGP analytic group section. also published two books about group work. Considering my experiences, and personal background I believe I can foster and promote the theoretical diversity required for the role, bringing knowledge by fostering new projects, interesting Webinars and workshops, and most of all group encounters through the analytic group section.

The plurality of voices and the dialogue between the different group approaches can enrich psychodrama, group psychotherapy, organizational consultancy and the work with families and couples in the whole world, especially now, when the world faces wars and hardships that claim for group thinking and work.

Carla Penna, PhD, is a psychoanalyst and group analytic psychotherapist in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She has 39 years of experience in clinical psychology with an emphasis on psychoanalysis at the interface with culture and society, group analytic psychotherapy/ group analysis, psychosocial studies and social dreaming matrices. She is a member of the Psychoanalytic Circle of Rio de Janeiro, former president of the Brazilian Association of Group Psychotherapy (2004-2006) and the Society of Group Analytic Psychotherapy of the State of Rio de Janeiro- SPAG- E.Rio (2002-2008). After she completed her PhD in clinical psychology at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, she became a visiting professor of Medical Psychology at the University State of Rio de Janeiro, devoted to post-graduation training programs as well as inpatient and outpatient work in groups at the University Hospital. In the last twenty years, she has researched crowds, mass psychology and large groups, social trauma, collective grief, transgenerational transmissions, and socially unconscious processes in persons, groups and societies. For sixteen years she has participated with Earl Hopper and Haim Weinberg in the research on social unconscious processes and large groups. She lectures and organises international conferences and workshops in different countries such as Mexico and various European countries. She is a former member of the Scientific Committee at the Group Analytic Society and is a member of the Analytic Section Committee at the International Association for Group Processes where she chaired and organised events and Webinars. She wrote two books, Inconsciente Social (2014) in Portuguese and From Crowd Psychology to the Dynamic of Large Groups (2023) by Routledge. He completed his master degree in Psychological Counselling from Hacettepe University Social Science Institute. He has been general secretary in Turkish Group Psychotherapy Association. Abdülkadir Ozbek, G.Leutz, H.Barz, E.Franzke were his basic trainers. In 1994 he was one of the founders of Ankara Group Psychotherapy Institute and became a president. In 1997 he was one of the founders of Istanbul Psychodrama Institute and Psychological Counselling Centre ( IPI). His books; “Psychodrama 400 Warming-Up Games’ in 1998 ‘ Handbook of Psychodrama Group Psychotherapy’ in 2000, ‘Spontaneity Theatre and Psychodrama Applications in Theatre’ in 2001. “Child Psychodrama” in 2007. In 1999 he established Istanbul Playback Theatre . With great enthusiasm and a deep sense of responsibility, I put myself forward as a candidate for the role of OCS Chairman. My name is Adrian Hofstede, and I am eager to dedicate my time and energy to the growth and development of the Organisational Consultancy Section within IAGP. OCS deserves a prominent place within IAGP. What unites us within IAGP is a focus on group processes and organizational dynamics in our work as organizational consultants. In doing so, we are guided by the idea that organizations are much less rational than people often think. Much of what is happening is below the surface, out of sight or awareness of the actors. Nevertheless, it has a significant impact on work processes and interactions. OCS should serve as a bridge between the practices of management consultancy, group analysis, and psychodrama. Integrating knowledge and insights from these areas can foster a more comprehensive and effective approach to organizational consultancy. This is an area where we can make significant strides, and I am committed to making it a reality. At the same time, OCS can contribute to the organizational development of IAGP and the individual practices of our colleagues with managerial issues. For example, OCS is already doing the former with a program for an improved transition from an existing to a new administration, for which I wrote the information brochure. This cross-fertilization should add value to becoming an OCS member. I aim to develop an attractive range of webinars, workshops, and podcasts. In addition, OCS should be visibly active with its recognizable offerings at IAGP conferences. In this way, I hope we can significantly increase the number of OCS members and activate existing members.

Before that, Adrian was managing director of a university enterprise, with more than 16 years of experience in governance, strategy development, management, communication, learning and development, and lifelong development projects. He started his professional life as a journalist and editor-in-chief of several magazines.

Adrian studied psychology, anthropology, and philosophy at Leiden University in the Netherlands and obtained his MSc in development sociology in 1989. He is used to working with professionals in complex, more political organizations and believes in education’s innovative and connecting power.

I plan to set up designated IAGP workstations at conferences and online settings. These workstations will provide young professionals with valuable information about the association, its benefits, and networking opportunities. Through interactive sessions at these workstations, attendees will have the chance to connect with experienced IAGP members and ask questions, fostering a welcoming and informative environment. In parallel, I plan to organize two- to four-day training sessions with other IAGP board members for young professionals prior to conferences. I also aim to foster a network among young professionals and existing IAGP members to build meaning connections and collaborative opportunities. This includes organizing webinars for young professionals to connect with therapists from various orientations, helping them explore and select training paths. Additionally, I propose establishing an InterVision group for young professionals, where they can share their developmental and career related issues and challenges, exchange ideas and cultivate ethical standards for the clinical practices and group research. Moreover, I would like to introduce a mentorship program within the young professionals’ section. This program would pair young professionals with seasoned IAGP members who can offer guidance on career development, clinical skills, and research. By fostering these mentorship relationships, it can provide young professionals with a strong support system as they begin their careers in group psychotherapy.

Dalia Sileem-Naguib is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the State of California. Dalia has a MA in Counseling Psychology from JFK University and a BA degree in Psychology and Social Behavior from the University of California, Irvine. Dalia is a Certified EFT therapist and Supervisor from the International Center of Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy as well as a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist. She is currently the Co-Director and Founder of the Egyptian Community for Emotionally Focused Therapy. Dalia has over 20 years of experience working with children as a former teacher and counselor. She has also lived and worked at multiple agencies in the Middle East and the US, where her case load consisted of working with couples, individuals, adolescents, and their families. In addition to managing a full-time private practice, she provides workshops and presentations around the World on different topics, such as EFT and Eating Disorders. Adriana Piterbarg is a Psychologist, Psychodramatist, Social Psychologist, Play Back Theatre Director and Sculptor. This, together with her professional experience, allows her to articulate Art with Mental Illness. She works in the clinical, pedagogical and social fields from an active practice in defense of freedom of expression, non-violent forms, the privilege of dialogue for understanding, respect for the democratic values and human rights. Her work consists in provoking in the social actors an attitudinal turn oriented from the protest towards the proposal, generating in this way collective constructions in community projects with the purpose of improving the quality of interior, bonding and social life. In addition to having a degree in Psychology from the University of Buenos Aires, she has completed a Postgraduate course in Social Psychology at the first school of Social Psychology Dr Enrique Pichon Riviere and holds a Diploma in Holistic Approach to health and disease from the Achimallen Center in Chile. I am Zahed Abdollahi, holding a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. Over the past 15 years, I have been actively engaged in psychotherapy, working in both hospital settings and private clinics. During this time, I have provided therapy to a wide range of clients in individual, couple, and group formats.

In 2017, I founded Ravanmehr Clinic, bringing together and mentoring a team of the most professional psychologists in the city under my supervision. This team has flourished and continues to deliver high-quality psychological services.

Beyond clinical practice, I have been actively involved in academic fields such as publishing, translation, research, and teaching at universities. A significant part of my professional efforts has been devoted to training psychotherapists, particularly in psychoanalytic approaches.

In recent years, I have frequently participated in IAGP seminars and successfully led a collaborative project with the organization. This project, which lasted several months, yielded excellent results. It focused on training in areas such as analytic group therapy, family therapy, psychodrama, and professional ethics.

In the past year, I expanded my professional pursuits by founding Ravanmehr Publications, with the goal of publishing specialized psychology books and further contributing to the field.

Among the books I have translated into Persian is *The Inner World Outside*, a seminal work that integrates psychodrama and psychoanalytic theory to enhance the practice of group therapy. My name is Tamar Archvadze, and I graduated from the Pharmaceutical Faculty of Tbilisi State Medical University in 1995. After completing my studies, I worked in various therapeutic portfolios as a Sales & Marketing Manager for a Turkish pharmaceutical company (2004-2009) and later as a Key Account Manager for a US pharmaceutical company (2009-2014). Currently, I am a Product Manager at Berlin-Chemie Menarini, a German-Italian pharmaceutical company, where I have been employed since 2014. My professional responsibilities include but are not limited to, organizing medical events such as conferences, workshops, advisory boards and other educational activities in accordance with internal and external codes of ethics and compliance policies. I closely collaborate with medical societies to organize local scientific events for health care specialists and increasing awareness activities for consumers. I am responsible for the development and implementation of regional strategies and tactical plans, aligning them with the global strategy through multichannel marketing. I was born and raised in the small town of Chiatura, where I completed my school education. In 2015, I became a psychology student at Ilia State University and moved to the capital city, Tbilisi. As I delved deeper into my studies, my interest in the human psyche only grew stronger, and this passion continues to drive me today. After completing my bachelor’s degree, I joined the Depth Psychology Association, where I gained invaluable knowledge. I also began personal analysis using the Jungian method, which I still actively pursue. MOTIVATION TO APPLY FOR THIS POSITION

What is the connotation of the word “GLOBAL”? To you? To me? To those living in one continent? And then to those living in another? Do you feel it harbors a positive, negative or neutral meaning? What does it evoke today, or yesterday.. and what will it mean for future generations?

Please be at ease… I will refrain from dwelling into a generic discussion; instead, I will leave you to ponder about these questions – which are the very questions I have been pondering about during the last decade of my life, a very short time span indeed to derive global inferences about globalisation.

The Covid-19 Pandemic seemed awful. However today, the Corona virus, this non- human biological organism, an external threat, looks soo innocuous when compared with the threats of terrorism and warfare flaring up ubiquitously – threats arising from within our very selves, and therefore only a portion of the many evils we can only fight against and hope to extinguish if we join our hands and hearts together and discover our selves within ourselves. Yes, the pun is intentional, for I strongly believe that the answer to our ills is to survive together – with greatest appreciations towards J. L. Moreno’s “Who Shall Survive”1; and if I dare to raise the bar, to thrive together.

It is common knowledge that J.L. Moreno envisioned Psychodramatists as World Therapists in the service of Sociatry. As quoted by my dear colleague Scott Giacomucci in a personal discourse article about traveling as spontaneity training, answering Moreno’s call “requires us to expand our sociometry beyond just our community or our country.”2

I set on a vocation as trauma therapist not only to ease but to mitigate what I considered to be unjustifiable suffering. Soon, I knew I could not sit in the stillness and sterility of my private practice; herewith feeling the drive to reach out to more people “out there.”

That is how my path bifurcated into expressive arts and psychodrama, trainings which were long but worthy, for they bestowed me the title of group therapist.

“GROUPS”, a dulcet sound to my ears. Working with ever expanding groups, the path naturally led me to work and be in contact with organizations with greater scope; such as EU, UNHCR, UNFPA, UNICEF, IOM, ISHHR, TELE’DRAMA, FEPTO, ASGPP.

Today, here I am at another crossroads in this path. Beyond all these organizations, I am standing at the doorstep of IAGP, a most “global” one… For me, the equation is not complicated; “global” = opportunity for “global healing.”

Actually, the truth is that the idea of joining the IAGP Board first emerged during a casual coffee-table conversation with a friend who knows me very well. The words were very plain, no embellishment attached: “Hande, would you perhaps consider being more involved with IAGP? With your background, you would be valuable, you could contribute to lasting positive change.”

So, yes, if you ask me: “What motivated me?” Sure, my friend and dark coffee. And if you add: “Did I need much convincing?” Well, not at all. Because as a member, presenter and workshop facilitator since 2028, I was already warmed-up to and belonging to IAGP

IF YOU ARE ELECTED, WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACHIEVE?

I applied to be elected as General Board Member of IAGP because I know from my experience initially as Board Member, then much later on as Secretary General of the International Society for Health & Human Rights (ISHHR), that it takes time to progress and assume greater responsibilities within a large-scale organization (ISHHR has 50 member countries). One needs first to understand the particular dynamics, risks and reality of an institution before acting or reacting; pushing or pulling; constructing or deconstructing. I intend to be patient as to first hear and see WHAT IAGP NEEDS FROM ME and not the other way around. To enable this, I will do my best to serve the elected executive board and support their vision, while also mirroring them by providing them with objective feedback along their trajectory. On the other hand, I would try to accord constant attention to being in perpetual communication and reciprocity with IAGP MEMBERS AS TO BE AWARE OF THEIR needs, because these voices are the whole board’s very reason of existence. It would be a satisfactory achievement for me if I can help to empower member voices which would be reflected on to others that they reach out to, assist, heal, etc. This said, I can give a brief assessment of the assets, skills and tendencies I possess which might potentially be of use to IAGP: As an expressive art therapist, I am aware that there is a new endeavour aiming to establish a committee for expressive arts. I recently signed the petition which was shared on the subject. I would be willing to invest energy in the development of that committee. As a trauma specialist, if needed, I could contribute to the committee on a clinical, organisational, educational and research level. Again my contribution could extent to writing or editing texts/books on trauma as well as strategy planning. Also if there need be, my experience could allow me to assist any matters concerning the psychodrama, organisational and transcultural committees. Given the task, I will assess, learn and implement.

YOUR VISION FOR IAGP (IN WHAT DIRECTION DO YOU WISH TO SEE IAGP DEVELOPING TOWARD)

I of course have several ideas and inspirations about improvements for the future of IAGP, more or less realistic, some maybe utopic.. but as I have explained in the previous section, cautious and wise step-by-step progress is mandatory when given a new role. It would be too premature and unripe to divulge any non-reality based “vision” now. It would not be a vision, only a fantasy. Fantasies involve imaginative and unrealistic settings, characters, or events. Fantasy stories take place in imaginary worlds that are not bound by the laws of physics or reality. I opt for physics, boundaries, safety. Be it fantasy, idea, plan or innovation… Regardless, as a novice, I need all to be tested by time, by discussions with peers and by the challenge of the process. There is however one insight I had last year about IAGP which I think would be appropriate to mention here: I am a psychiatrist, so of course I’ve had some psychoanalytical training. Merging that foundation with my clinical experience with groups of trauma patients; I took an unusual decision. For the 5th IAGP Mediterranean Regional Conference for Trauma and Disaster which took place in Antalya, Türkiye I prepared a presentation entitled: Group Trauma Work: Transference, Countertransference & Challenges. No psychodrama, No expressive arts in that presentation. All psychoanalytic. Why in the World did I do such a thing? What incited me to cross those invisible but very much palpable boundaries existing between the two big schools of group therapy at IAGP? Starts here: When I first came upon IAGP, the togetherness of these two big schools under one umbrella organization was perhaps the most beguiling quality of IAGP for me. I have always been a big fan and practitioner of multidisciplinary work and its potential for creativity and novel ideas. However, I soon came to notice that, it was not “togetherness”, it was just “co-existence.” Mutual respect, albeit without exploration: Terra incognita. And that is why I decided to sail towards terra incognita , curious to know if anyone would meet me on the shore. There on the shore was a surprise but welcoming figure; Konstantinos Liolios, with a most valuable feedback about my presentation. To make a long story short, the dream is to kindle the covert but magnificent potential that IAGP has of having members of both schools of group psychotherapy together. There could be more mingling, interaction, exchange happening. I am someone who also believes in the power of hybrid interdisciplinary approaches. I realize now (hail the Unconscious!) that it is probably no coincidence at all that my workshop at the same Conference was about an interdisciplinary trauma intervention model I had developed (EMDR-Art Therapy Group Protocol). Do action-methods and psychoanalytic group therapy need to live in segregated chambers within a same roof? Could Psychodramatists and Psychoanalysts host each other in mixed panel sessions, even workshops? The outside world looks and only sees group therapists, a couple happily married under the auspices of IAGP. Why shouldn’t we see and make it happen that way too?

Hande Karakılıç Üçer is a Psychiatrist in private practice in Ankara, Türkiye; she does individual & group therapies & pharmacotherapy in Turkish, English & French. She is an expressive arts therapist, psychodramatist & psychodrama trainer at Dr. Abdülkadir Özbek Federation of Psychodrama Associations. She is also working at the International Tele’drama Institute. In her past career, she has served as psychiatrist at university and private hospitals – among which assuming the role of Director at French Lapaix Hospital in İstanbul, Türkiye; She also worked at the Turkish Security Forces; at UNHCR in the assessment & treatment of asylum-seekers. She is involved in psychological trauma field work for more than 20 years; since her volunteering as MHPSS at the Marmara Earthquake (Turkey; 1999). For 16 years, she was coordinator of the psychological trauma and disaster psychiatry unit of the Psychiatric Association of Turkey, during which she participated in psychosocial interventions related to natural- and man-made disasters in Turkey and abroad. She is also organizational consultant and trainer mostly for international and expat organizations in Türkiye (Embassies, EU, UN, etc.) She has several chairmanships, presentations, scientific publications and authorships. MOTIVATION TO APPLY FOR THIS POSITION

I became a member of IAGP in 2023 and have found inspiration and feelings of connectedness through Social Dream Matrix, Support Group for Russian Colleagues, Events and Webinars. As an Art Psychotherapist I`m excited by the proposed new “Theatre & Arts Therapy Section”. “Arts Therapies” holds a diverse specter of artistic and cultural expression. I would love to play a part in the creation of such a new Section, and in my vision I`m co-chairing the new section with Anastasia Golema.

IF YOU ARE ELECTED, WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACHIEVE?

I`d focus on Art Psychotherapy and connect with the British Association of Art Therapy (BAAT). The British tradition is strongly anchored in visual art practice. Since the pionering days in the 1940s and 1950s the therapy evolved from a primarily psychoanalytic/psychodynamic model – to include other approaches like mentalization- based treatment, cognitive analytic art therapy, dyadic parent/child, mindfulness etc. Affiliation to BAAT – a well organised and up to date establishment – will give ground for valuable exchanges and recruitment of new members. ONLINE PROGRAMME: I`d like to develop a concept where I draw on my skills as a Visual Artist and Group Analyst. I`d like to invite Artists to present their bodies of work – and through various forms of reflective teams/open group discussions online – make new FORUMS in the intersection between fine art and group analysis – that cross fertilize both fields. I believe this concept can be transferred and used as a tool in a number of settings.

I`m impressed by IAGP`s online service to members – through participation I sensitize myself to become an online therapist/facilitator. To receive warm and empathic learning – at such a high level – in an international environment is incredibly exclusive! In the meetings on Zoom I learn to use myself as a tool – to become an instrument against fragmentation and polarization! With hyper awareness I learn about empathy and bonding in online foras – a skill that needs to be exercised to be able to create these invaluable networks – to establish a sense of togetherness within individuals in today’s technological, distressed and psychosocially distant societies. Every individual needs to have a sense of belonging; somewhere to think of as their place – a space that feels safe. It intrigues me to learn how to create such safe spaces online – how to weave with invisible threads! IN MY VISION IAGP CONTINUES THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE ONLINE EVENTS! This year, I have had the priviledge to work as consultant to Magdalene Jeyarathnam, IAGP-CAOA Chair. This has given me a sense of how important and hopeful is the reality of IAGP as a global organization. CAOA events created the possibility of building bridges between intitutions and professionals from around the world. Finding the recognition of our common humanity across our cultural

I would like to participate in strengthening the financial health of the organization: I wish to raise membership engagement by creating small, targeted projects that are attractive and easy to access (and funded by European or global tenders, f.e. by UNESCO). For example, I would love to aim for creating international collaborations: short- and long-term projects of research or education that open a channel between professionals of different cultures – so we can support, teach and empower each other.

I believe that the health and survival of humanity depends on communities. This concept is at the core of IAGP’s identity and mission so it already houses many groups, networks and projects. A sense of community is hard to develop though, especially virtually and on a global scale, so I would be happy to work on groups within IAGP becoming even more visible and accessible to old and new members of IAGP, so people can make the most out of this global professional network. I also think it’s very important for the people working for IAGP to have a rewarding experience. So using the vast expertise within IAGP, applying the tools of organizational development and group dynamics on the processes of the organization could help us to understand where the efforts have the greatest return and could help us reorganize resources (time, attention, communication, etc.) on these areas.

Anna Szirmai has been working as a psychologist, psychodramatist and organizational developer in Budapest, Hungary since 2009. Her speciality is integrating academic research with real-life therapeutical and organizational development expertise, when working as a therapist or as a consultant/coach. Her clients over the years included small and large, for profit and non-profit organizationd alike. She has been working with international conmunities and individual clients in English for over 15 years. She is a licenced Person-Centered therapist, Folk Tale Art therapist, Learner-Centered trainer and Psychodramatic coach. To create an Open Space, a forum for discussion and reflection in the large community with the members and the Governing Board. To create a shared vision and a sense of belonging to an organization that can make a difference in this troubled world, where all voices are heard.

BIOGRAPHY

Judith lives and works in Stockholm. She is a psychologist, psychodramatist, and Sociodramatist. She was trained in Psychodrama by Zerka Moreno at the Moreno Institute, Beacon, New York. She is a private practitioner and international lecturer. She is a Psychodrama Trainer and Supervisor at the Hungarian Psychodrama Association. Judith is a psychodrama examiner and trainer in several European and Swedish training institutes. She is a partner, external trainer, and examiner at the Centre for the Study and Application of Psychodrama | Sofia Symeonidou. She worked as a psychologist in the Stockholm City Child Care department for seventeen years, assessing foster families, educating social workers in attachment theory, genosociogram, and other related topics, and supervising staff members. She has run Conflict transformation courses for healthcare personnel and trustees in the Swedish Industry Union for ten years. She has also been working on a three-year project with a group of impoverished Roma women.

She has worked as a family therapist in the Nacka district, Stockholm. She has been working with psychosomatic patients in a research and treatment project at the Swedish National Institute for Psychosocial Factors and Health, Department of Stress Research, Karolinska Institute in Stockholm. Founding member of FEPTO (Federation of European Psychodrama Training Organizations), served as the federation’s president for six years and chair of the Ethics Committee. She is the co-coordinator of the FEPTO Task Force for Peace Building and Conflict Transformation group, which uses the Sociodrama and Psychosociodrama methods in conflict areas. (For example, Maidan Revolution in Kyiv) She has coordinated with the international team on an Erasmus+ project in Sociodrama and is running sociodrama training in Egypt and Hungary. She is the chair of the Swedish Association of Psyichodramatists. She is leading support groups for Ukrainian psychotherapists. She was awarded for lifetime achievement by FEPTO and the Hungarian Psychodrama Association.

MOTIVATION TO APPLY FOR THIS POSITION

I would like ethical practice of all professionals, because of cultural diversity in IAGP, increasingly there are differences in understanding of ethical standards and practices. I am motivated to stand for the position of member of the Ethics Committee of IAGP because I see immense potential and scope to strengthen and uphold ethical standards within our organization. As the demand for ethical clarity and redressal continues to grow, it is crucial to establish clear protocols and ensure their consistent implementation. I am committed to dedicating my time and effort to fostering a culture of accountability, fairness, and professionalism. By addressing emerging ethical challenges, I aim to support our diverse community and enhance the integrity and credibility of our shared work in group psychotherapy and processes.

IF YOU ARE ELECTED, WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACHIEVE?

Set up professional protocols for all members to feel safe, confident and focus on their highest potential as a professional. Not only is there cultural diversity there is an issue of inclusion of all genders, neurodivergent and marginalised communities could foster a culture of integrity, accountability, and professionalism within the organization. By upholding and promoting the IAGP’s ethical principles, I would ensure that members act with honesty, maintain objectivity, and protect confidentiality in their work. Through education and dialogue, I could support members in enhancing their competence and ethical awareness, ensuring they use methods and tools responsibly. Encouraging respect for group autonomy and diverse cultures, I could help strengthen the organization’s global reputation. Ultimately, this role would empower me to create a more ethical, inclusive, and impactful professional community.

My vision for IAGP is to uphold and advance a culture of ethical excellence that reflects the organization’s core values of integrity, inclusion, and professionalism. I envision IAGP as a global leader in promoting ethical practices that embrace cultural diversity, respect for race and gender, and the autonomy of groups. By fostering transparency, accountability, and fairness, I aim to ensure that ethical standards guide every aspect of our work. My focus will be on developing clear protocols, providing ongoing education, and addressing ethical concerns with diligence and sensitivity. Together, we can create a more equitable, inclusive, and trusted professional community.

BIOGRAPHY

Magdalene is a Pioneering Expressive Arts Therapist & Certified Psychodramatist: With nearly 30 years of experience in counseling and therapy, Magdalene Jeyarathnam is a trailblazer in the field of expressive arts therapy and psychodrama. As a certified psychodramatist, she has worked with individuals, couples, and groups, including family groups, in India and globally. A Legacy of Impact: Magdalene’s extensive experience spans working with addiction, HIV/AIDS, and mental health issues, collaborating with government agencies nationally, and with UNICEF, and WHO on various HIV related projects. She is the founder of the East West Center for Counselling and the Indian Institute of Psychodrama, India’s first psychodrama training institute. Leadership & Recognition: Magdalene is a founding member of the Indian Academy of Professional Supervisors. She serves on the board of directors for the International Association for Group Psychotherapy and Group Processes(IAGP). She is a certified “international trainer” of IAGP. She is a co-founder of the Expressive Arts Therapy Association of India. Her outstanding work with the LGBTQ+ communicty and HIV/AIDS has earned her the prestigious Neil Passariello Memorial Award for 2024 by the Amercian Association of Group Psyhcotherapy and Psychodrama(ASGPP) Certified Psychodramatist, Trainer and Supervisor: Magdalene is the first Indian psychodramatist trained in India. She has learned from renowned experts like Dr. Herb Propper, Sue Daniel, and Dr. Jorge Burmiester. She has run psychodrama workshops in Malmo, Melbourne, Thessaloniki, Antalya, Cairo, Zurich, Istanbul, Los Angeles, Iseo, Pescara and many cities across India. IAGP is my professional home. I care for it. I can contribute by my professional knowledge as a therapist and as an academician. I had been a lecturer in Istanbul Medical Faculty for 40 years. I have the experience how to approach ethical matters.

We have to nurture IAGP as much as we can. To give chance for new people, younger generation and different cultures and countries can elaborate our expectations.

BIOGRAPHY

I am 79 years old retired (2011) academician from Istanbul Medical Faculty, There I worked as a group therapist in treating patients and teaching psychiatry residents and medical students on group therapy and sexual therapy.. I have been a pioneer in giving education about sexuality for the community. My publications are mostly about sexual therapy of vaginismus in homogeneous groups using psychodrama. In present I am a trainer and supervisor in two institutions. CETAD- Sexual Education, Training and Research Association and Dr. Abdülkadir Özbek Psychodrama Associations Federation.
