The Mystic Wisdom of J.L and Zerka T. Moreno

Just as body and soul cannot be considered separately, the scientific perspective and the mystical dimension within the theory cannot be separated either. There are very few theories that attempt to embrace the human being in their entirety. Psychodrama group psychotherapy, through the four main theories it encompasses, profoundly embodies this integrative and comprehensive structure.

The IAGP Psychodrama Section is delighted to announce its first event in the 2026 webinar and workshop series. Psychodrama group psychotherapy, as one of the earliest forms and disciplines of group psychotherapy in the world, embodies a profoundly inclusive structure. In this conference we will explore different depths of this inclusiveness and reflect on the mystic wisdom of J. L. and Zerka Moreno.

It is fair to report that within Moreno’s methods, theories, and philosophies, there is to an
embedded educational tradition with theories, basic ideas: a Morenean group enlightenment
education with the whole of humankind as its objective. Moreno’s enlightenment education
holds to a vision of the unfathomable vastness – the godhead enlightens itself through its
integration with us via groups of which all humanity plays a part. Morenean group
enlightenment education might not be what might imagine, yet as Zerka Moreno has said, this
is Moreno’s original creation drawn from his study of the great religions and spiritual traditions
and the sociometric history of humanity.

Five principles are to be addressed in this group enlightenment education:
1. There is an underlying structure to a group that is the same underlying structure as to
society and for the world humanity and this structure has a determining impact on every
aspect of human life;
2. There is an active, always present intelligence that is without form, a first universe, the
source from which all sentient life has emerged;
3. The presence of this intelligence, cosmic in nature, is similar to quantum science
teaching about a field in which forms are entangled and connected, similar to what the
great spiritual traditions teach;
4. This primordial Intelligence moves a group to heal the broken circles that divide us and
bring us closer to our common ground;
5. This intelligence, with us, heals the underlying structure of our society and our local
lives.
This is the essence of Moreno’s group enlightenment education.
